Split Pea Soup With Ham

A delicious and nourishing soup. You could add kielbasa instead of the ham bone.

Ingredients
1
lb dried split peas
10
cups water
Meaty hambone (left over from holiday ham)
1
(12 oz) bag frozen chopped onion
1
(20 oz) bag frozen sliced carrots
2
cups chopped celery
2
garlic cloves, chopped
1/4
tsp freshly ground black pepper
pinch of dried thyme
Directions
1.
Combine all ingredients in a large stock pot; bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low; partially cover and simmer 3 hours, stirring occasionally.
2.
Remove pieces of ham and set aside. In food processor or blender or immersion blender to puree soup.
3.
Return soup and meat to pot. Correct seasonings. Reheat uncovered about 5 minutes.
