Chocolate Sponge Frosting

Ingredients

cup sifted confectioners' sugar
1/2
tsp vanilla
1
egg or 2 egg yolks
1/4
cup milk
2-4
squares chocolate, melted
1
tbsp soft butter or margarine
Directions
1.
Combine ingredients in order given, beating with rotary beater until blended. Place in a metal bowl, in a pan of cracked ice or ice water, and continue beating until of right consistency to spread (about 3 minutes). Makes enough frosting to cover top of two 9-inch layers or top and sides of 8 x 8 x 2" cake, or about 2 dozen cupcakes. Double recipe if frosting is to be put between layers.
