Banana Pops

Ingredients

ripe bananas, peeled
8
wooden popsicle sticks
1
(6 oz) package (1 cup) semi-sweet real chocolate morsels; or (1 cup) of butterscotch morsels; or 1 cup of an 11-1/2-ounce package (2 cups total) milk chocolate morsels
1
tbsp vegetable shortening
Directions

Cut bananas in halves, crosswise. Insert wooden stick in end of each and freeze. Melt over hot (not boiling) water, semi-sweet real chocolate, butterscotch or milk chocolate morsels. Stir in shortening. Coat each banana piece with melted morsel mixture. (If mixture becomes too thick, add 1 teaspoon shortening to remaining mixture). Wrap each in aluminum foil or place in freezer bags and store in freezer. Makes 8 pops

For an interesting and flavorful variation, roll coated Banana Pops in one of the following: chopped nuts, shredded coconut, plain or toasted, oven toasted rice cereal.
