Chocolate Dessert Waffles

CHOCOLATE DESSERT WAFFLES:

(6 oz) package (1 cup) semi-sweet real chocolate morsels

cup shortening
1
cup unsifted flour
1
tsp baking soda

tsp salt

eggs
1/2
cup sugar
1/2
cup milk
CREAMY-ORANGE BUTTERSCOTCH SAUCE:
1
(6 oz) package butterscotch morsels
1/4
cup evaporated milk
1/4
tsp orange extract
Directions

CHOCOLATE DESSERT WAFFLES: Melt over hot (not boiling) water, semi-sweet real chocolate morsels and shortening; remove from heat. In small bowl, combine flour, baking soda and salt; set aside. In large bowl, beat eggs until thick and lemon-colored (about 5 minutes). Gradually add sugar and beat until very thick. Stir in flour mixture alternately with milk. Add semi-sweet mixture; blend well. Bake in waffle iron according to manufacturer's directions. Serve sprinkled with sifted confectioners' sugar or topped with vanilla ice cream, if desired. Makes: sixteen 4" squares

CREAMY-ORANGE BUTTERSCOTCH SAUCE: Melt over hot (not boiling) water, butterscotch morsels. Stir in evaporated milk and orange extract. Blend butterscotch mixture with a fork or wire whisk until smooth. Serve warm over ice cream or cake. Makes 3/4 cup sauce
