Di's Chili

Tried and true delicious Chili recipe. Wonderful comfort food on a cold winter's day!

Ingredients

lb Ground beef or chuck
1
medium onion, diced
1/4
cup diced green bell pepper & hot pepper (according to taste)
2
cans diced tomatoes or equivalent frozen. Crushed tomatoes also are great, if you don't like the chunks. (garden if I have it)
2
can Campbell’s Tomato soup or 1 can Tomato soup and 1 can Tomato paste for a thicker base
1
can Dark Kidney Beans and 1 can Pinto Beans (Also your choice, 2 cans whatever beans you like)

tbsp Chili Powder

tsp Garlic Powder

tsp Lowry’s Season Salt

tsp Onion Salt
1/4
tsp Cumin
1/2
cup Picante Sauce (Omit this for less spicy)
1/2
cup Honey or ¼ Cup Sugar* (according to taste)
Directions
1.
Brown ground beef with onions and peppers. Season meat with a sprinkle of Garlic Salt or Season Salt. Drain off excess fat (if excessive). Add tomatoes, beans and spices bring to low boil. Add tomato soup and picante sauce. Stir well to mix all and simmer for 5-10 minutes, stirring often. Taste test and adjust any seasonings. If it doesn’t taste salty enough, add Season Salt. Simmer a few more minutes. Add Honey* or sugar, stir well to mix let heat for about 1 more minute and taste again. Let stand with lid on for 5 minutes before serving.

Serve with corn chips, grated cheddar cheese and/or crackers.

The Honey/Sugar will tone down the acidity of the tomatoes and that really enhances the flavor.
