Danish Apple Crunch Bars

This is my favorite fall recipe when apples are cheap and delicious!

Prep
Cook
Serves 24people
Ingredients
2-1/2
cups pillsbury's best flour
1
tsp salt
1
cup shortening
1
egg yolk + enough milk to make 2/3 cup(mixed with a fork)
corn flakes cereal
8-10
mcintosh apples peeled and sliced
1
cup sugar mixed with 1 tsp cinnamon
1
egg white
1
tbsp water
frosting
powdered sugar/water/vanilla
Directions
1.
Preheat oven to 375
2.
Mix flour, salt, shortening and the egg/milk mixture in mixer. Roll half of dough with rolling pin to fit jelly roll pan (15x10) this does not have to be perfect, Once transferred to pan, use your fingers to get into corners and up sides.
3.
Using your hands, grab handfuls of cornflakes and crush them, sprinkling over dough. I don't have an exact amount, depending on the size of your hand, but I like the bottom covered, this absorbs the juice from the apples and helps the dough not get soggy.
4.
Peel & slice apples and layer over cornflakes, then sprinkle with sugar/cinnamon mixture.
5.
Roll out remaining half of dough and lay over filling and pinch edges as good as possible.(doesn't have to be perfect!)
6.
Beat egg white until stiff and add water, brush over crust
7.
Bake 45-55 min until apples are tender. (take a sharp knife and stick into center)
8.
Brush with powdered sugar/water/vanilla mixture while still hot
