Baked Apple Dumplings

Curl up and enjoy these baked apple dumplings with your favorite vanilla ice cream, especially when the weather gets chilly!

Ingredients

cup all-purpose flour

tbsp sugar

tsp baking powder

tsp salt

cup water
2/3
cup shortening

eggs, 1 whisked
1-2
Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and medium diced
1
tbsp lemon juice
1/2
tsp pie spice
1/4
cup dark brown sugar
Directions
1.
Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Mix well, then add water, shortening, and egg. Mix until ingredients are combined and dough comes together. Pour out on to a flat floured surface and using a rolling pin, roll out dough till about 1 inch thickness.

In a medium bowl, combine chopped apples, lemon juice, pie spice and brown sugar. Stir and taste, adjusting flavors to your liking.

Cut out large circles of dough and place about 1-2 Tablespoons of apples in the center. Brush the rim of the dough with beaten egg and bring the edges of the dough together, forming a ball.
5.
Place finished filled dough on a baking sheet or in a lightly greased baking dish 2 inches apart and brush the top of the dough with the beaten egg. Bake in the oven for 10-15 minutes or until golden brown. Cool slightly before serving.
