Aunt Patricia's Chocolate Pie

Jon Welch's favorite dessert is the Chocolate Meringue Pie. The entire Walker family (even those who married into the Walkers, like Uncle Toot's wife Patricia) would make this recipe.

Ingredients
pastry or pie shell for 9-inch pie
pie filling
1 1/2
cups sugar
3
tbsp cocoa
1 1/2
cups milk
1
tbsp flour (heaping)
1/2
tsp vanilla
1/4
stick of butter
3
egg yolks (beaten)
Meringue
3
egg whites
1/4
tsp cream of tartar
1/2
tsp vanilla
1
tbsp of sugar per egg white
Directions
1.
Cook pie shell until browned.

Filling: In black iron skillet, melt the butter, sugar, cocoa, flour, milk and beaten egg yolks. Cook on low heat, then medium until thick. Add vanilla and pour into pie shell.
3.
Meringue: Beat egg whites, cream of tartar and salt until soft peaks form. Add sugar, 1 spoon at a time while beating. Add vanilla and beat.
4.
Seal the meringue on top of the hot pie filling and bake at 325 until the meringue is brown (about 15 minutes.)
