Dal Makhani

A mixed lentil curry made with lots of butter and cream. The recipe tastes even better the next day after reheating.

Ingredients

?4 cup puy lentils
1
tin kidney beans
2
tsp cumin seeds
2
green chillies, finely chopped

garlic cloves, chopped

in gingerroot, chopped
2
tsp garam masala powder
1
?2 cup fresh cream
1
tsp red chili powder
3
tbsp butter
2
tomatoes, chopped (extra large tomatoes)
1
onion, chopped
1
tbsp oil
1
tsp cinnamon
1
tsp nutmeg
1
tsp ground coriander
cooked basmati rice to serve
Directions
1.
Cook the lentils in boiling water and drain.
2.
Heat butter and oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. When it crackles add chopped onions and fry until brown.
3.
Add ginger, garlic, chillies and tomatoes. Sauté until the tomatoes are well mashed.
4.
Add boiled lentils and kidney beans to this. Mash the lentils while stirring continuously. Add a little liquid and simmer on low for 15 mins.
5.
Add fresh cream, garam masala, coriander, nutmeg, cinnamon and simmer for another 5 mins.
6.
Serve with basmati rice and naan bread.
