Pot Roast

Nana Marilyn's Version

Serves 14people
Ingredients
1
piece of 1st cut brisket: 4 - 4.5 lbs
1
clove garlic, sliced thin
1
packet onion soup mix
1 1/2
cups ketchup
1 1/2
cups ginger ale
1
small onion, diced
pinch of pepper
Directions
1.
In a deep baking pan, place diced onion
2.
Sprinkle both sides of meat with a drop of peppah**
3.
Slice the garlic and put half on each side of meat
4.
Put half of onion soup mix on each side of meat
5.
Mix ketchup and ginger ale and pour half of mixture under the meat and the other half on top of the meat
6.
Cover baking pan well with aluminum foil, make sure it is tightly sealed
7.
Put in the oven at 350 degrees F for 2.5 hours
8.
Turn meat over and leave uncovered for 30 minutes until meat is brown and gravy has reduced
9.
If not tender enough, recover and cook for 30 minutes more
10.
Let cool and covered
11.
Refrigerate overnight
12.
Skim off fat and slice against the grain
13.
Freezes very well; Take out day before using to defrost in the refrigerator
