Warm Apple Pie

Soft baked apples with flaky pie crust and a cinnamon crumble topping. Serve with caramel sauce if desired.

Ingredients

cups All-purpose flour
1
stick Butter, chilled and small cubed
2
tbsp Ice water

tsp Salt
8
ea. Granny smith apple (about 4 lb.)
1
ea. Lemon, zested and juiced
1
cup Sugar
2
tsp Cinnamon
1
tsp Nutmeg
Cinnamon crumble topping
1
cup Brown sugar
1
cup AP flour
1
/4 c. Butter, small diced
1
tsp Cinnamon
1
tsp Salt
Directions
1.
Preheat oven to 375F. In a large mixing bowl, mix flour with chilled butter. Work mixture with your hand until it resembles a crumb topping. Be careful not to over mix.
2.
In a separate bowl, combine water with salt. Add liquid into flour-butter mixture until it forms a dough.
3.
Wrap and chill dough for 1/2 hour.

In the meantime, peel, quarter, and remove the seeds of the apple. Slice apples into 1/8" thick slices.
5.
Combine apple with lemon juice and zest as you work to prevent the apple from oxidizing.
6.
Mix apples with sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Set aside.
7.
To make the cinnamon struesel topping, mix brown sugar, AP flour, butter, cinnamon and salt together in a small bowl. Do not over mix. Mixture should be coarse.
8.
To assemble: Roll out pie dough to an 11" diameter. Place dough in a 9"in. pan. Cut off extra dough with pairing knife.
9.
Pour apple mixture into pie pan. Top apples with crumb mixture. (Use all of the crumb topping).
10.
Bake for 1 hour or until pie crust is golden brown.
11.
When pie is baked, cool pie for 45 minutes. Serve with vanilla ice cream or caramel sauce.
