Ola's Pound Cake

Contributed by: Granddaddy (Ed Chapman) Don’t skip the sifting step, it makes the texture velvety. The crust is the best part! Note: I use butter flavored Crisco sticks & double the vanilla.

Prep
Cook
Serves 12people
Ingredients
2
stick butter
1/2
cup Crisco
3
cup sugar
5
eggs
1/2
tsp lemon juice
1/2
tsp vanilla
1/2
tsp almond extract
1
cup milk
3
cup flour (all purpose)
1/2
tsp baking powder
Directions
1.
Beat sugar, butter and Crisco until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, making sure they’re completely blended after each addition.
2.
Add flour a little at a time with the milk, alternating until both ingredients have been used except for one cup of flour.
3.
Sift the baking powder with the remaining flour and blend in. Add the vanilla, almond and lemon juice, being sure to mix well.
4.
Pour the thick batter into a large greased and floured tube pan. Put in a cold oven, and bake at 350°F for 1 to 1 1/2 hours (until it passes the toothpick test), but do not open door for the first hour!!
5.
Allow to cool then run a knife around the edge of the pan, and invert onto a plate.
