Serves 12people
Ingredients
BOURBON SAUCE
1/2
cup butter, melted
1
cup sugar
1
egg
1
cup Kentucky bourbon whiskey
BREAD PUDDING
1
loaf of day old french bread, or other desired bread, cut into 1 inch cubes (about 6-7 cups)
1
qt milk
3
eggs, lightly beaten
2
cups sugar
2
vanilla
1
cup raisins, if desired (soaked overnight in 1/4 cup bourbon)
1/4
tsp allspice
1/4
to 1/2 tsp cinnamon
3
butter, melted
Directions
1.
In a saucepan, melt butter; add sugar and egg, whisking to blend well. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly until mixture thickens. (Do not allow to simmer or it may curdle.)
2.
Whisk in bourbon to taste and remove from heat.
3.
Whisk again before serving over bread pudding later.
4.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
5.
Soak the break in the milk in large mixing bowl. Press with hands until well mixed and all the milk is absorbed.
6.
In a separate bowl, beat eggs, sugar, vanilla, and spices. Gently stir into the bread mixture.
7.
Stir in raisins, if adding to the bread pudding.
8.
Pour butter into the bottom of a 9 x 13 pan. Coat the bottom and sides well.
9.
Pour in the bread mix and bake at 350 degrees for 35-45 minutes, until set and edges start getting a bit brown and pulling away from the edge of the pan. Can also make in individual ramekins, if desired.
10.
Serve with bourbon whiskey sauce on the side, pour on to taste.
11.
Best fresh and eaten the day it is made.
