Brandied Cherries For Cocktails And Canning

These delicious brandied cherries make a beautiful, inexpensive DIY gift for birthdays or the holidays. Great as a cocktail garnish or in pies and other sweet treats. Yum!

Ingredients

lb sweet cherries (remove stems and pits)
1
lb white sugar

cups brandy
2
cups water

(1 pt) sterilized canning jars
Directions
1.
Bring water and sugar to a boil in a large pot and stir to dissolve sugar. Add brandy and remove from heat.
2.
Fill 7- 1 pint canning jars that have been washed and sterilized with the cherries.
3.
Pour brandy mixture into jars, leaving 1/2? space at the top. Attach clean and sterilized lids and rings.
4.
Place jars on a baking sheet and into a preheated 250F oven for 20 minutes.
5.
Place on a cooling rack and allow to sit for 24 hours.
6.
Re-check the seals on each can. If they do not look secure, place jars in the refrigerator (this step is very important, you can become very sick from consuming canned foods that are improperly sealed). Otherwise store in a dark cool place for up to 6 months.
