Carmelized Onion Dip

One of the best dips that is super simple to prepare. Can make the day before and bake the day you're serving.

Ingredients
4
medium sized onions (yellow preferred)
2
package Philadelphia Cream Cheese Blocks
1
cup Mayo (a good brand)
1/2
cup parmesan cheese
2
tbs butter, 1 tablespoon olive oil
1/2
tsp sugar
salt & pepper to taste
3
slices lean bacon, sliced small or crumbled and sautéed til crisp - drain (optional)
1/2
cup Gruyere Cheese, shredded (optional)
Directions
1.
Thinly slice the onions and add to the pan with the butter and oil on medium heat
2.
Season with Salt and Pepper and add the sugar and stir
3.
Continue to stir the onions every few minutes, ensuring they do not burn (if the temperature is too high lower slightly)
4.
Continue to cook until onions are caramelized, brown, soft and broken down (about 30 - 40 minutes) and remove from heat to cool
5.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees

Meanwhile, soften cream cheese and add to a large bowl along with the other ingredients
7.
Add the onions to the bowl, stir well and transfer to an oven safe baking dish
8.
Cooks Note: You can prepare up to this step a day or two in advance and refrigerate until ready to serve
9.
Put in oven, uncovered for about 30 minutes or until browned and bubbly
10.
Serve with sliced bread, Tostito's, etc.
