Chocolate Drop Cookies Recipe

The girls loved them and asked for the recipe. I was flattered and sent it to them. Several days later, one of the girls came timidly to Paul saying her cookies were not like mine, but were like chocolate soda mints. Dismayed, on checking the recipe I wrote for her, I found that I had written 2 tablespoons of soda." --Eleanor Daugherty
cup brown sugar
1-ounce squares unsweetened chocolate, melted
cup sifted flour
tsp baking soda
cup chopped nuts (optional)
Thoroughly cream sugar and shortening.
Add egg, vanilla, chocolate, and blend well.
Add sifted ingredients alternately with milk.
Drop from teaspoon 2 inches apart on greased cookie sheet.
Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes.
While warm, frost with mocha chocolate frosting.
