Spaghetti With Tomato Sauce

This is an authentic Italian pasta sauce. Every family has their own version. Adjust the spices to make it your own. The original recipe did not call for red pepper or basil...I added it. If you like your sauce smooth you can run it through a blender. Serve with French bread and a green salad or broccoli.

Ingredients

lb spaghetti

tbs olive oil
1
medium onion, chopped
2
clove garlic, minced
1
28 ounce can crushed tomatoes
1
tsp sugar
1/8
tsp crushed red pepper
1
tsp basil
salt and pepper to taste
1
cup grated parmesan cheese
Directions
1.
Place a large stock pot filled 2/3rds with water over high heat to bring to boil.
2.
Over medium heat using a large skillet heat oil. Add onion and garlic and sauté until onions are clear, stirring occasionally.
3.
Add tomatoes, sugar, red pepper, basil, salt and pepper. Simmer uncovered for about 20 minutes.
4.
While sauce is simmering, cook the pasta according to package directions.
5.
Check the sauce for seasoning and adjust, if necessary.
6.
When pasta is cooked, drain and return to the stock pot. Toss half of the parmesan cheese with pasta.
7.
Add the sauce to the pasta and stir well. Add the remaining cheese and serve!
