Adam's (& David's & Mrs. Wilkes') Biscuits

Buttermilk biscuits are the food of the gods. These are modeled on inspiration from Savannah, specifically my grandfather & my favorite lunch spot in the world. Bet you can eat seven.

Prep
Cook
Serves 16people
Ingredients
2
cups Self-Rising Flour
1/2
tsp Baking Powder
1
tbsp Crisco (or a substitute like Smart Balance)
2
tbsp Butter
1/3
cup Buttermilk
1/3
cup Whole Milk
Directions
1.
Sift Flour and Baking Powder into bowl
2.
Cut in the Crisco (or substitute) and Butter until mixture resembles course corn meal
3.
Fill measuring cup with Buttermilk, Whole Milk, and enough Water to make 3/4 cup
4.
Make well in center of the dry Flour, and pour in liquid
5.
With your hands, mix lightly and quickly to form dough, moist enough to leave sides of bowl
6.
Remove to lightly floured surface. Knead by picking up sides of dough farthest from you, pressing down with palms, pushing dough away. Repeat six times
7.
Work dough into large ball while kneading
8.
Keep your fingers dry by dipping into dry flour frequently
9.
Pinch off portions of dough for desired side of biscuit
10.
Press lightly to make biscuit a bit flat on a well greased baking pan
11.
Bake in preheated 450 degrees for 12-15 minutes
