Grammie's Chocolate Cake

Ingredients

ozs unsweetened chocolate
1/2
cup butter
1/2
cup coffee
1
cup sugar
1
egg yolk
1
tsp baking soda dissolved in a small amount of cold water
1 1/2
cups flour
1
tsp baking powder
1
tsp vanilla
1/2
cup boiling water
Directions
1.
Preheat oven to 350
2.
Prepare pans of your choice, greasing and flouring them well and using parchment paper in the pan bottom.
3.
Depending on your preference, you can bake this in one 8" x 8" or 9" x 9" pan, or use two 8" round pans for a layer cake (more frosting this way!)
4.
Cook the chocolate, butter, and coffee on low heat until thick, stirring constantly.
5.
When cool, add the sugar, egg yolk, dissolved baking soda, flour, baking powder, vanilla, and boiling water.
6.
Mix well,
7.
Pour intro prepared pans.
8.
Bake 15 minutes in two pans, 20-25 minutes if using one.
9.
Check with toothpick to measure doneness.
10.
Allow to cool about 10 minutes before taking out of pan.
11.
Then cool thoroughly before frosting as desired.
