Red Velvet Cake

Ingredients

cup shortening

tsp vanilla

cocoa

tsp baking powder

tsp salt

cup buttermilk
1
tsp baking soda
1
cup butter ( 1 stic oleo, 1/2 stic shortening
1
cup milk
3
tbsp flour
1
cup sugar
Directions
1.
Mix vinegar and soda in a cup and let it sit.

Cream together sugar, shortening, and eggs. Make a paste of the cocoa and a little red coloring. Add to creamed mixture, then add rest of coloring.

Add buttermilk, salt, baking powder, and flour alternating dry ingredients with the buttermilk. Add vanilla.

For frosting: combine milk, flour and cook until thick. Stir until cool. Cream butter, sugar, until light and fluffy. Add 1 T flour mixture to the creamed mix, then gradually add the rest, beating the whole time. Spread frosting between layers and on top of cake. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

Stir in vinegar and soda and add to mixture. Mix well, then grease and flour pans and bake at 350.
