Venture Inspiration Cookies

These cookies were sent to me by my mother whenever I said I needed inspiration. They arrived, and were eaten within an hour, but the great ideas they inspired lasted until I needed the next batch.

Ingredients

cup all-purpose flour, sifted

cup sugar

tbsp cocoa powder
1/2
tsp baking powder
1/2
tsp salt
2/3
cup shortening
2
large eggs
1
tbsp corn syrup
1
tsp vanilla
1
cup raisins and/or chocolate chips (optional
Directions

Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a cookie sheet. In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, salt, shortening, eggs, corn syrup, and vanilla together for 2 minutes using an electric mixer on low speed. Stir in the raisins and/or chocolate chips, if using.

Using two spoons or a small ice cream scoop, drop 1 Tbsp. portions of batter onto the greased baking sheet. Bake for 10–12 minutes. Let the cookies set for 3–5 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack. The cookies should be chewy, not hard.
