Mema's Apple Pie

I learned this recipe from my grandmother back when I was just a kid. I remember many a holiday spent in the kitchen with her, and this was my all-time favorite dish to make and enjoy!

Prep
Cook
Serves 6people
Ingredients
1
recipe pastry for double crust pie
1/2
cup unsalted butter
3
tbsp all-purpose flour
1/4
cup water
1/2
cup sugar
1/2
cup brown sugar
8
granny smith apples, peeled & sliced
Directions
1.
Preheat oven to 425. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Stir in the flour to form a paste. Add water, sugar & brown sugar then bring to a boil. Reduce heat and let simmer.
2.
Place the bottom crust in your pie dish. Fill with apples, slightly mounded. Cover with a lattice work crust.
3.
Gently pour the sugar & butter mixture over the crust. Be sure to pour slowly so that it does not run off the sides.
4.
Bake for 15 minutes in the preheated oven. Reduce the temperature to 350. Continue baking for 35-45 minutes more, or until apples are soft.
