Apple Pie

Prep
Cook
Serves 8people
Ingredients
2
Crusts (homemade or store bought)
7-8
Granny Smith Apples peeled, cored, sliced
1
stick Butter
3
tbsp all purpose flour
1/4
cup Water
1/2
cup White Sugar
1/2
cup Brown Sugar
1
heaping tsp Cinnamon
1/4
tsp Nutmeg
1
tsp Vanilla
Directions
1.
Place the apple slices in a large bowl and set aside. Preheat oven to 425°F.
2.
In a large pan, melt butter over medium heat, add 3 tbsp. flour and mix until it forms a paste, then add water, sugars, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla and mix well. Bring to a boil for 1 minute, then add apple slices, mix very well covering apples and let simmer for 2-3 minutes, mixing occasionally, and then remove from heat.
3.
Line a 9" pie pan with one crust *(I like to add cinnamon, sugar, and butter to both crusts to give them more flavor)*, add the apple mixture to the pie crust. The apples should be heaping, they will cook down in the oven. Add the top crust, be sure to brush with melted butter to help brown the crust, and cover pie loosely with foil and place pie on a cookie sheet.
4.
Bake at 425°F for 15 minutes, then reduce heat to 350°F and bake for 50 minutes. Remove tin foil for the last 10 minutes of baking time to allow crust to brown.
5.
Let cool on a cooling rack for at least 20 minutes, be careful serving, the pie and pan will still be hot.
6.
Best with vanilla ice cream while the pie is still hot!
