Auntie Sue's French Toast Casserole

Ingredients
topping

cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/3
cup whipping cream
6
tbsp butter
1
tbsp corn syrup (optional)
for french toast
3
eggs
1
tsp vanilla
1/2
cup milk
1/4
tsp salt
slices of french bread
Directions
1.
Spray a 9x13 inch glass baking pan with non-stick cooking spray.
2.
In a medium sauce pan combine all the topping ingredients and mix well. Cook over medium heat until smooth, stirring constantly. DO NOT BOIL.

Spread topping into baking dish.
4.
Beat eggs in shallow bowl. Add milk, vanilla and salt and beat well. Dip the bread in the egg batter and place bread slices over the topping.
5.
Cover and refrigerate overnight.
6.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Uncover baking dish and bake 20-25 minutes or until toast is golden. Let stand 3 minutes. You can serve is a dish or invert the entire pan onto serving platter.
7.
Optional: add 1 cup chopped nuts.
