Bhel Puri

Bhel puri is a puffed rice and potatoes dish usually served with tamarind sauce. Originating in Gujarat, it is a popular roadside snack throughout India.

Ingredients
1
packet of flat crispy puris
500
gr puffed rice
125-250
gr plain sev
2
tsp chaat masala
1
tsp chilli powder
2
boiled potatoes
1
big red onion
1/2
bunch coriander leaves
lemon juice or chopped raw mango
salt to taste
spicy chutney
1/2
bunch coriander leaves
1/2
bunch mint leaves
2
big garlic cloves
10-12
green chillies
salt to taste
sweet chutney
1/2
(1 cup) date pulp
1/4
cup tamarind pulp
1
tbsp jaggery or sugar
2
tsp chilli powder
2
tsp cumin seeds
Directions
1.
For the chutney, grind all the items to a fine past using some water.
2.
Mix together puffed rice and sev. Add chaat masala, salt and chilli powder.
3.
Chop onion (and raw mango) finely. Dice potatoes and chop coriander leaves.
4.
Add onion, raw mango or lemon juice, potatoes and coriander leaves to the puffed rice and sev mixture, and mix gently with hands.
5.
When serving, add spicy and sweet chutney to the above mixture. Serve some mixture on individual plates, top with some more sev and chutneys (if desired). Garnish with coriader and serve with crunchy puris.
