Momma Neidhart's Spaghetti Sauce

This is the spaghetti sauce I grew up with. Lots of people love it but it is somewhat sweet and the opposite of most Italian type recipes. My Mom learned to make this after the war.

Ingredients

large can heavy tomato puree

medium cans tomato paste
2
medium cans tomato sauce
1/4
cup sugar
1
tsp salt
2
large (or 3-4 small) bay leaves
1
tbsp oregano
2
lb ground meat
1
package frozen onions
2
cloves garlic (add more to taste)
1 1/2
sweet pepper chopped
tabasco sauce (just a few drops to taste)
1
jar mushrooms (optional)
Directions
1.
Brown meat. Pour off fat. Saute peppers and onions with enough oil to cover bottom of pan. Put rest of ingredients in a large pot adding meat and pepper/onion mixture. Season with salt and pepper. Add garlic.
2.
Let simmer for 4 - 8 hours (This is the key. Even better the next day!)
