Gingerbread Cookies

I come from a large family and meals were the time we would all congregate. As we all got older, this stays true. This recipe in particular is one of my favorites because we got to enjoy both the baking and decorating of the gingerbread cookies. Choosing the cutout shape as a child was always fun. My favorites were the candy cane, tree, and classic gingerbread person.

Prep
Cook
Serves 24people
Ingredients
1
cup unsalted butter, softened
1
cup granulated sugar
1
cup molasses
2
egg yolks
4
cups all-purpose flour
2
tsp baking powder
1
tsp baking soda
3
tsp cinnamon
2
tsp ginger
2
tsp cloves
1/2
tsp nutmeg
Directions
1.
Cream butter and sugar; add molasses and cream until well combined. Blend in egg yolks. Sift together dry ingredients and add to creamed mixture; blend until incorporated. Chill dough for one hour.
2.
Roll out to desired thickness and use your cookie cutters to cut it out.
3.
Bake at 350 F. The cook time varies based on the thickness but start with 6 minutes and check from there.
