Caramel Brownies (Aka Caramel Layer Choco Squares)

oz package light caramels
1/3
cup evaporated milk
1
package Pillsbury German chocolate cake mix
3/4
cup butter or margarine, melted
1/3
cup evaporated milk
1
cup chopped nuts (optional)
1
cup (6 oz) package) semi-sweet chocolate chips
Directions
1.
In a heavy saucepan, combine caramels and 1/3 c evaporated milk. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until caramels are melted. Set aside.
2.
Grease and flour 13"x9" baking pan. In large mixing bowl, combine dry cake mix, butter, 1/3 c evaporated milk and nuts. By hand, stir until dough holds together.
3.
Press 1/2 of dough into prepared pan and reserve remaining dough for topping.
4.
Bake at 350F for 6 minutes.
5.
Sprinkle chocolate pieces over baked crust.
6.
Spread caramel mixture over chocolate pieces.
7.
Crumble reserved dough over caramel mixture.
8.
Return to oven and bake 15-18 minutes. Cool slightly, refrigerate 30 minutes to set caramel layer.
