In medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Cook the onion for 5 to 7 minutes, or until softened.

In a large bowl, mix together the meat, egg, salt and pepper. In another bowl, stir together the ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and Tabasco. Add this mixture, the cooked onion, and 1/2 cup of the bread crumbs to the meat mixture. Pat the mixture into a 8-by-4-inch loaf pan.

Cover the pan and refrigerate for 1 hour to allow the flavors to blend. Sprinkle the top of the meatloaf with the remaining 2 tablespoons of bread crumbs.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Bake for 45 o 55 minutes, or until cooked through. Then broil the top for 1 to 2 minutes. Let the meatloaf stand for 10 minutes before slicing.
